Duncree Wood

CVCWT has entered into a partnership with the owners of Duncree Wood, Mr and Mrs Wallace Parker of Old Hall Farm in Newton Stewart, to manage the 1.6 ha woodland and provide safe public access.

In this partnership we have been supported by local residents, the Ewart Drive Playgroup, and the Activity & Resource Centre, Newton Stewart.

Duncree woodland access path
New easy access path

During 2003/04, 1.6ha of plantation woodland was thinned and a strip of trees overhanging the houses of Ewart Drive were felled.

435m of fencing has been put in place to prevent stock access to the woodland.

A 435m easy access path with two gates has been constructed throughout the woodland.  Household rubbish has been removed as a result of a collaborative exercise between the Dumfries & Galloway Council and the residents of Ewart Drive.

Tree species are beech, sycamore, bird cherry, birch and wych elm.

The ground flora includes bluebells and sweet woodruff.

On-going management

  • Placing of bat and bird boxes in the woodland.
  • Developing a wildlife inventory of the site
